Spark Bolt

Spark Bolt is among of the most basic of the projectile type spells, and as one of the possible starting spells, likely one of the first you'll encounter. The fast-moving projectile is fairly accurate, with only a slightly arced trajectory, making it easy to aim - useful given the low damage output means you need to score more hits to get a kill. It also comes with a small increase to your chance to score a Critical Hit, which stacks if you have multiple copies.
Tips
- The very weak damage is balanced by its very low mana drain and added critical chance, making this a choice spell for early builds, especially for wands with low cast delay/recharge times.
- The Trigger and Double Trigger versions are very useful for delivering spells that can harm you to a safe distance away, assisted by their high speed and accuracy.
- You can also experiment and combine them with various spells, like Chainsaw, for some interesting results.
- Since the Double Trigger variant also has explosion damage, it will synergize well with explosion modifiers as their damage is amplified by its base explosion damage. If alone, the explosion from the Double Trigger variant is not friendly fire enabled and thus always safe to use.
- Spark Bolt can be made to have infinite lifetime with the use of only one copy of Reduce Lifetime.
- This can happen accidentally - which may be the explanation you are looking for if you have received a message that someone is impressed after firing one.
- This is currently the only spell in Noita that has a Double Trigger version.
- Delayed Spellcast, however, goes one further - having a Triple Expiration Trigger.
With Trigger(s)
Uniquely available in a double trigger form, Spark Bolt also comes in the more typical single trigger and timer varieties too.
Trigger
- The trigger version has a long range, and the payload is only released when it hits, making misses costly.
- Combined with Piercing Shot, the Bolt can hit enemies more than once, releasing its payload repeatedly.
- The damage penalty from Piercing Shot makes this safe to use, so long as you ensure the payload does not have Friendly Fire.
Timer
- The timer version limits the maximum distance before payload release, ideal for releasing short-range secondary projectiles at a distance without the risk of losing the effect of the payload if you miss.
Double Trigger
- The blue-hued Double Trigger variety hits a little harder, dealing 3.75 projectile damage.
- It also has a small explosion, which deals 2.5 and slightly increases its effectiveness for digging.
- The term 'double trigger' is slightly misleading, there's only one trigger (which functions just like any other), but the payload is formed as if it started with a Double Multicast.
Result:
This wand produces a Spark Bolt with a payload containing only Digging Bolt.
Result:
Adding a Double Spell means the Spark Bolt payload contains both Digging Bolt and Spitter Bolt.
Result:
Using the Double Trigger version produces the same effect, a payload containing both Digging Bolt and Spitter Bolt, (but using one fewer wand slot.)
- You can use Add Trigger, Add Timer or Add Expiration Trigger on a Spark Bolt with Double Trigger to change the type of trigger. Doing so will, however, remove the doubled effect.
Result:
Add Timer changes the trigger type to be a Timer trigger, but it also makes the trigger draw only a single spell. So in this example, only Digging Bolt ends up in the (Timer) payload.
Result:
Multicast spells can be used to include multiple spells in the payload - here using Double Spell gives us a Spark Bolt with a Timer and a payload of two (Digging Bolt and Spitter Bolt).
Result:
Multicast also works inside the Double Trigger - in this example the Double Trigger draws 2 - first Double Spell (which itself draws 2 - Digging Bolt and Spitter Bolt) and second the Pollen. All three ending up inside the payload.
Trivia
- Before version 1.0, the first starter wand in New Game mode always spawned with Spark Bolt.
- Firing Spark Bolt with Double Trigger emits a few particles of Magical Liquid.
