Chaotic Transmutation
Chaotic Transmutation is a modifier type spell that grants affected projectiles the ability to turn many powders and liquids into one of a fixed list of materials. The transmutation result is selected when the projectile is created, so a single projectile will always have the same transmutation effect for its whole lifetime.
Transmutation Results
The material picked to transmute to comes from the list of materials tagged with [chaotic_transmutation], which is divided into two groups, the normal material list, and the rare material list. For each projectile there is a 98% chance of picking from the normal material list, and a 2% chance of picking from the rare material list.
After one of the two lists is selected one material is chosen out of the options - all have an equal chance for selection. See table below for a visualisation of the possible results.
Chance | List | Materials |
---|---|---|
98% | Normal Materials (each: 5.44%[1]) |
Liquids |
Powders | ||
2% | Rare Materials (each: ~0.29%[4]) |
Notes:
- ↑ The overall probability of getting any single Liquid or Powder material from the Normal Materials list is 5.44%.
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Since Acid is present in both the normal and rare material lists, it has an overall probability of ~1/17.5 of being chosen as the transmutation result.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 These materials can be extremely rare / hard to find outside of this spell.
- ↑ The overall probability of getting any single result from the Rare Materials list is 0.2857%
Tips
- Unlike the Touch of spells, the transmutation effect is not directly damaging - but the resulting material can be.
- This, combined with the lack of control over the material created mean that this spell is not especially useful for combat.
- This spell is affected by the Unlimited Spells perk.
- Combining this spell with Ground To Sand will allow it to additionally transform any solid non-powder material by first transmuting it to sand, which will then will be transmuted by this spell.
- Adding Ground to Sand, Water Trail and Chaotic Transmutation to Fish creates many problems.
- SPOILER: Chaotic Transmuation can create all three of the materials required to create Void Liquid
- Combining this spell with Toxic Sludge To Acid and Toxic Mist will create a mist of materials. Blood To Acid and Blood Mist does not work since it cannot transmute blood mist(material).
- Combining this spell with Explosion of Spirits will create an explosion of materials.
- Be very cautious when using this spell; Lava and Acid are easily capable of killing you, and although the Polymorphine possibilities are rarer, they can prove even more deadly.
- Because the transmutation effect is determined when the spell is cast, it can be applied to a spell like Dormant Crystal to create permanent conversion zones for generating desirable materials. These can be moved around with a Kuu if needed.
- This is even easier using Rock, since the rigid body object generated can be moved around using Telekinetic Kick.
- If a projectile that transmutes materials to Honey and another projectile that transmutes materials to Diamond are both created, it's possible to generate large amounts of Ambrosia and Poison, the latter of which will gradually evaporate away.
- SPOILER: Chaotic Transmuation can create all three of the materials required to use the Nullifying Altar
Spell Interactions
Chaotic Transmutation disables LuaComponent
script effects on other spells, changing some spells drastically. It can make Summon Omega Sawblade stop trying to kill you, or make plasma spells into safer piercing projectiles as demonstrated in this video:
Some interactions are unstable, and have an element of randomness (marked with *). In the case of modifiers, the order is matters, if CT is in front of the modifier, then it will not be able to remove the effect. If several components are applied to the projectile, only the effect of the first in order will be removed.
Projectiles so modified will generally instead gain the transmutation effect (with a random material). Projectiles created with 0 lifetime (i.e. that live for 1 frame, and then immediately die) do not have time to transmute anything, meaning that you can get potentially positive effects from removing a script component from them while avoiding the side effect.
