Summon Taikasauva

Summon Taikasauva (listen Audio.svg) is a utility spell which summons a flying wand with Tier 3 stats to fight for you. The wand created is randomly generated, just like any other wand you find in the world. It behaves just like a Charmed Charmed enemy and will retaliate if you shoot at it.

It will drop gold nuggets when defeated, as well as the wand itself for you to pick up. It has only a single use but can be refreshed. The Taikasauva also has a finite lifetime, so you can also simply wait for it to cease existing - this may be wise since any Taikasauva may be carrying a wand that can one-shot you.

When this spell is fired with the wand tip of the firing wand touching or just a tiny distance from a different wand that is not held by a creature or you, instead of summoning a Taikasauva, it will either apparently do nothing or swap the existing wand for a different wand, apparently without summoning any Taikasauva. If it seems to do nothing, it is still swapping, but the coordinates of the wand tip were the coordinates of the original wand. Take care to not delete a wand you want to preserve, especially if it was a wand not from Summon Taikasauva, as in this case, the wand may be incorrectly tiered to be resummonable. Keeping your wand tip five pixels away from any graphical element of existing wands is a good rule of thumb.

Spells

As noted, this spell calls forth Tier 3 wands, which will spawn with a random selection of Tier 2 spells more than 90% of the time.

Wand generators pull spells from one tier lower, so a Tier 3 wand will have Tier 2 spells in it. If the spell is of the Projectile type, then for any individual spell, there is a 10% chance that a wand will take a projectile from a higher tier. This check is done multiple times until the 10% roll fails, meaning the chosen projectile can be from many tiers higher. Wands generated by this spell should always be treated as if they have a decent chance to kill you if you have sufficiently low HP and sufficiently poor movement. The lists below attest to both this, and the utility of this spell for any reasonable use of it.

Tips

  • As you cannot control what type of wand this spell initially calls forth, it can potentially be extremely dangerous to you if, for example, it contains Earthquake or Nuke spells.
  • This spell can also be used to reanimate any existing wands if they are close by when you cast it. Take care not to swap out a wand you want or one with spells you want, as they will be gone after the wand is replaced.
  • With the right combination of Greek Letter spells, this spell can be used to generate countless spells and wands.
  • The mechanics regarding the summoning of wands can be abused to resummon the same wand multiple times, farming useful spells.
    • This happens because the wand you get appears to be randomised based on the xy coordinates of the spell cast.
    • To put this into practice, you need three things:
      • Summon Taikasauva
      • Alpha or Gamma
        • A Wand Refresh can be used instead to permanently keep Summon Taikasauva at 1 use remaining.
        • Alternatively, using only Summon Taikasauva and Long-Distance Cast you can get a large number of similar wands quickly, though due to its inaccuracy you will be unable to farm as precisely.
      • A wand with an end width of 1 pixel that is long enough to touch the ground
    • Using these spells, you can walk in either direction until you find a spell you like, then try to stay still and move your mouse cursor until you find an area you can recognise well enough to repeatedly cast the spell from. Once you have this spot, pick up the wand without moving, take the spell or throw it somewhere safe, drop the wand and repeat.
    • You can increase the accuracy of your spell casting by using Inner Spell to remove the variance caused by Minä's breathing animation (±3px vertical) and the wand being withdrawn when near solid walls (up to ± whole wand length).
    • Summoning wands will be easier if you've made yourself a long tunnel with a black hole beforehand and have the Tinker with Wands Everywhere perk. Linear Arc or Horizontal Path can be used to further simplify things. Shooting straight up in this tunnel with your wand touching the roof is the easiest way to generate large numbers of the same wands.
  • Taikasauva don't know what spells they have, so even if they have only Healing Bolt, they will not heal you and will instead heal enemies. You can obtain healing from such Taikasauva by staining yourself with Berserkium.
  • Summoned wands need at least 1 frame to come into existence. If you make a wand that will summon and instantly kill the summoned wand, you will at best get the gold for the kill but no wand. With Wand Radar, you will sometimes see a phantom indication for where the summoned wand would have been, but the wand will not be visible nor accessible.

Wand Builds

Example 1:
Using HM Statue trigger multiplication effect

Shoot this at the statue in the Holy Mountain to generate many wands from a single charge - this is a useful early game tactic if you happen across the spell.

Example 2:

Along similar lines, this build uses Piercing Shot, and so works on any enemy (with sufficiently high HP) rather than only the Holy Mountain statue. Combine with Alpha, Gamma or Tau for unlimited shots.

Example 4:
Simple single wand spawn and kill

This build will summon a wand and give it the requisite time to exist, then kill it for you to inspect. This build is for if you don't have Unlimited Spells. If you do, or you just want to burn through Dynamite charges, put Dynamite where the Alpha is and remove the Alpha altogether. Obviously, if you don't have Explosion Immunity, be careful. Put this in a distant payload or cast it while falling.

Trivia

  • The spell icon for Summon Taikasauva looks similar to the icon used for Wand Homing and can sometimes be confused.

"Wrong" related projectiles

Some spells define a sequence of "related" projectiles that don't match the sequence of projectiles added when normally casting the spell, meaning that they can have different behavior with Add Trigger and Plicate series of spells. They may produce different kind(s) of projectile(s) and/or a different number of projectiles. The "related" projectiles will be used:

  • when Add Trigger/etc. targets this spell and the payload search succeeds
  • when Plicates target this spell, if this spell is of type Projectile or Static Projectile and there is enough mana

If the original spell is also drawn and cast (which is very often the case with Plicates), then both "related" and "normal" projectile sequences may appear in the result.

  • Here, the related projectile is only the wand ghost, while a normal cast technically also includes a projectile that would mimic picking up a wand, turning some writing on nearby altars into blood; however, this effect never actually spawns due to the wand ghost projectile preventing later projectiles from spawning. It does count as another projectile when determining placement of projectiles that do spawn when using Formations.
