Barrier

The "Barrier" spells come in three kinds, Horizontal, Vertical and Square. These spells create stationary walls of green particles in three different shapes that resemble plasma. Different to how plasma works, they will not destroy terrain or fluids. The particles persist for several seconds, or until an entity comes in contact with them, at which point the particle is consumed and deals heavy damage. Barrier particles are not affected by modifier spells, and are not blocked by energy shields.

Take care when casting, as they can hurt the player. Without a trigger or Long-Distance Cast, for example, both the vertical and horizontal barrier may immediately be placed in the player hitbox when first fired, dealing instant damage. Square barrier is safe to fire without adding anything, so long as you stay put.

The individual green points that make up each barrier are a cosmetic effect; there are only 19 evenly-spaced projectiles in a Horizontal or Vertical Barrier, and 76 in a Square Barrier, with each dealing Projectile Damage32.25 damage. They also carry Explosion Damage125 damage each. However, they do not explode by default so this damage normally only matters for Spells to Power

Tips

  • For safe offensive use, put the Barrier spell inside a trigger, such as Spark Bolt, to cast it far from the player.
    • Square Barrier can be safely used without a trigger, though it will briefly trap the player in a small area, making it difficult to dodge enemy projectiles.
    • Adding a Personal Gravity Field to the trigger spell will cause enemies hit to attract the barrier particles and take substantial damage.
  • Barrier spells have good synergy with Spells To Power, which absorbs the high total damage of the barrier into a single projectile spell.
  • Barrier particles are not effected by homing modifier spells, as well as any spell-modifiers. Barriers can be moved by other effects, such as the Homing Shots and Projectile Repulsion Field perks and the Black Hole spell.
    • Effects that push the particles away from the player or towards enemies can be useful, but effects like Black Hole can pull them towards the player, which is hazardous.
