Quantum Split

Quantum Split is a projectile modifier that separates the projectile into three with slightly divergent paths. The center quantum projectile is located further forward. If one of the projectiles hits a creature or a material, the other two projectiles will disappear.

Tips

  • Some modifiers have a different effect or no effect on the red and blue copies; for example, pathing modifiers will only affect the initial direction of the copies.
  • Only the original copy of a projectile with a Trigger will release a payload, and only if it is triggered before the other copies hit; red and blue copies only make all 3 copies disappear. Expiration Trigger still works; only original projectile releases payload if any of 3 hits.
  • Many projectiles such as Bombs will create copies, but only one explosion will occur. There are a couple workarounds.
    • Modifiers that extend projectile lifetimes will make the two copies explode before the original projectile creating an extra explosion.
    • Forcefully triggering an explosion (with Explosive Detonator for ex.) also has a chance to create more than 1 explosion.
    • Explosive Boxes are an exception; the original box and all copies will explode.
  • Can pair nicely with bouncy projectiles, allowing split projectiles to impact surfaces without disappearing.
  • Pairs extremely well with projectiles that don't impact or expire to cause their effect, as it means this modifier can very cheaply triple the effect of a spell. For example, Black Holes, Luminous Drills, or Plasma Beam or other plasma spells, Spiral Shot, and Path of Dark Flame.
  • Pairs well with Chain Bolt, as all three copies can deal damage before the entanglement deletes them.
  • Pairs well with Ball Lightning; as or very quickly after red and blue copies are created, all the copies will detonate, often for around 815 damage total.
  • When multiple Quantum Split modifiers are applied to the same projectile, not all of the generated projectiles will disappear when the first one hits. More copies are preserved if the original projectile and blue copies hit before the red copies.
  • Can be useful when applied to "feed" projectiles for Spells to Power; Spells to Power will feed off of the original and all copies before they are deleted. However, applying Quantum Split and Spells to Power to the same ("consumer") projectiles is usually counterproductive, since the copies will not receive the damage bonus and may cause the original to be deleted.
  • If multiple projectile copies hit simultaneously, they can all deal damage. Typically requires precise positioning and fast projectiles to set up, though this phenomenon is responsible for most of the synergy with Chain Bolt.
  • Since the red and blue copies do not inherit lifetime modifications, they can be used to set off, with consistent timings, far-away Expiration Trigger original projectiles modified with many copies of Phasing Arc without having to offset the associated increases in lifetime with other modifiers. This is a component of Quantum Split-based Long Distance Travel[1].
  • Arc-type spells will not form arcs between the copies generated by this modifier.
