Spells that create more than one projectile when cast.

Summon Fly Swarm, Summon Firebug Swarm, and Summon Wasp Swarm are three static projectile spells that summon different kinds of flying bugs to your aid. The summoned creatures are very small, much smaller than regular Enemies, and attack foes by flying into them. When idle they hover on and around you.

Tips

  • Summoned Firebugs will set things On Fire! On Fire! on contact, except for Minä.
    • Firebugs can disappear earlier if they come in contact with water.
    • The projectiles from Firebugs do Damage Fire dmg-large.png Fire damage only.
  • Summoned Flies or Wasps attack with Damage Melee dmg-large.png Melee damage only.
  • Swarms can be impacted by projectiles. This can help you defensively, by blocking an enemy's shots, but they may also block your own.
  • Swarms are affected by modifiers, just as other static projectiles.
    • With Homing, they can deal damage every tick, achieving potentially thousands of DPS with only a Homing modifier. However, this cannot be relied on as a main attack, as many enemy hitboxes allow the wasps to hover as close as possible without dealing damage.
    • Damage Field is particularly good value on swarms, and avoids hitbox issues since direct contact is not required.
  • Swarms can be used, in the same manner as Pollen, to create spell casting loops.
    • However, their higher HP (and greater number per cast) may be too effective.
    • If using a spell with piercing, ensure it has enough damage to kill the bugs, otherwise rapid fire will accumulate a lot of them, which multiplies the effect of the loop.
    • It's also difficult to add a trigger to the swarm, as each individual fly/wasp requires its own copy of the payload.
  • If used with a Larpa, the swarm will continuously spawn copies of itself for about five seconds.
  • Combined with Summon Hollow Egg you can use the Hollow Egg trick to make it home on enemies.

Multiple Projectiles

Some spells, including Summon Swarm, produce several projectiles per cast. This property produces useful effects and synergies, and has some caveats to be aware of when used with other spells.

  • Modifiers that add damage will apply to all of the individual projectiles, multiplying their value.
  • The Arc modifier spells, particularly Electric Arc, work well since they are more effective when many projectiles are cast together.
  • Pattern angles set by Formation multicast and other spells can apply to each projectile individually.
  • Add Trigger will attempt to add a trigger to each individual projectile, using a separate payload for each one.
    • Some spells produce a different number of projectiles when combined with Add Trigger.

"Wrong" related projectiles

Some spells define a sequence of "related" projectiles that don't match the sequence of projectiles added when normally casting the spell, meaning that they can have different behavior with Add Trigger and Plicate series of spells. They may produce different kind(s) of projectile(s) and/or a different number of projectiles. The "related" projectiles will be used:

  • when Add Trigger/etc. targets this spell and the payload search succeeds
  • when Plicates target this spell, if this spell is of type Projectile or Static Projectile and there is enough mana

If the original spell is also drawn and cast (which is very often the case with Plicates), then both "related" and "normal" projectile sequences may appear in the result.

  • Swarm spells have one additional bug in their "related" projectile sequence relative to when they are normally cast.
