Speed Up is a Modifier type spell that can increase the initial speed of projectiles from spells it is cast alongside, potentially more than doubling their reach. Increasing speed is the only effect, making this easier to use than some other Speed Modifiers.

Tips

  • Works well with Energy Orb, making it easier to hit moving enemies with it or dig across long distances.
  • Projectile speed cannot be increased indefinitely — as almost all of them are limited by their Terminal Velocity (which is usually 1000px/s).
    • Many projectiles (e.g. Small Teleport Bolt, Luminous Drill) have initial speeds greater than or equal to their Terminal Velocity.
    • Modifiers that increase initial speed will have no effect on these projectiles, excepting to counter other speed reducing modifiers.
  • Synergizes well with spells such as Lightning Bolt and Black Hole, substantially extending their reach.
    • However - fast projectiles are harder to keep up with - and Black Holes will only dig while near to you.
  • One copy of Speed Up turns Spitter Bolt With Timer into a very effective, ranged trigger projectile.
  • Homing becomes less effective as projectiles move faster, because they have less time to accelerate towards the enemy.
    • This can be countered somewhat by adding more copies of the homing modifier, to strengthen the effect.
    • If you have the Homing Shots perk, you can use Speed Up to reduce (but not remove) the effect for specific spells you don't want to home.
