Aave
Aave (listen ) (also known as Spirit) is a group of enemies that apply a status effect to nearby creatures, including you. They have no method of directly attacking, and serve only to cause mayhem with the effects that they apply.
There are four spirits:
- Viha-Aave (pronunciation unavailable) (also known as Anger Spirit), which applies Berserk
- Utu-Aave (listen ) (also known as Fog Spirit), which applies Confusion
- Neva-Aave (pronunciation unavailable) (also known as Bog Spirit), which applies Slimy
- Kaamo-Aave (listen ) (also known as Depression Spirit) which applies Weakness.
Besides the different effects that they apply, they are functionally identical. They leave no corpse upon death.
Behavior
They tend to actively follow you around when they have line of sight. They are not hard targets to dispatch, but their status effects can occasionally help you; Neva-Aave's slime will douse you if you are On fire (but will not prevent you from catching on fire to begin with), and Utu-Aave's confusion can cause enemies to have a tough time getting close.
Amusingly, the spirits will even apply their effects to destructible environmental objects such as Propane Tanks. Besides the Weakness status, this has no effect. Kaamo-Aave can be considered the most dangerous of the spirits, as the Weakness effect will cause creatures to take 10x damage from most sources.
Trivia
- The spirits are affectionately named by the community (in order) Harry, Jerry, Larry, and Garry.
- These enemy types will spawn significantly more frequently in biomes with the Haunted modifier.
- Kaamo-Aave originally spawned in New Game, but was moved to New Game Plus shortly after it was added to the beta.
