Jäätiö (listen ) (also known as Ice Spirit) is a floating skull which continuously produces freezing vapour. It is primarily found in the Snowy Depths.
Behavior
It will fly towards you, shooting projectiles which will burst into a small cloud of freezing vapour after travelling a short distance. When it takes damage, it shoots twelve of the these projectiles in an even circular spread. It will also dash on occasion, which deals Melee damage. This is especially dangerous because when Frozen, a melee hit deals half of your remaining health.
Ice Spirits often appear alone, but can spawn in groups of two or even three. They will usually not attack other enemies unless provoked, much like Hiisi.
Combat Tips
- Caution must be taken not to be caught in a cloud of the freezing vapour this enemy produces.
- The Gas Fire perk negates the risk from the freezing vapour, allowing safe attacks from above.
- Since the freezing vapour they produce floats upward, it is generally better to shoot them from below, though this does open up the possibility of getting hit by a dash attack. If you're fighting with a spell that electrifies or deals knockback, be careful to make sure it doesn't land on you, as these attacks will cause it to fall to the ground.
- Long range attacks are a safe option for dealing with these enemies, as the projectiles are slow and easy to dodge if you see them coming.
- Melee attacks are especially risky due to the retaliation projectiles it launches, as well as the potential to be freeze melee'd.
- Rapid-fire wands cause this enemy to emit more retaliation projectiles than high-damage single-shot wands. Because of this, high damage projectiles are significantly safer and more effective.
- Hitting Jäätiö with a teleport bolt often causes instant death, as you are likely to be hit by many of the 12 projectiles it produces, both freezing you and dealing massive damage. For this reason it is best to exercise caution when teleporting around the snowy depths as the damage and frozen effect can be lethal.
Notes
- The Freezing Liquid that they bleed reacts rapidly with Air to produce Freezing Vapour.
- The Freezing Liquid they produce is treated as Worm Blood when using fungal shifts
