Piercing Overview

No Piercing or Penetrating

Most projectiles, upon hitting an entity (usually enemies, or things that move, but not terrain), will do damage once and then die. Similarly, upon hitting an entity most 'trigger projectiles' (ones with a Trigger or Timer either naturally or added) release the trigger payload they are carrying once and then die.

One projectile, one target, one payload.

Penetrating

Piercing-2of3.png
Some projectiles have the ability to Penetrate entities - they can still only hit any particular entity once, but do not die on impact remaining able to hit other entities (once each) as well. If the projectile has a trigger payload this is also released once for each entity hit.

One projectile, multiple targets, one payload release each.

Piercing

Piercing-3of3.png
Some Projectiles have the ability to Pierce entities (either naturally, or via the modification of Piercing Shot). These projectiles do not die on impact, but can also keep hitting the same entity while in contact with it. If the projectile has a trigger payload this will be released multiple times while in contact with the same entity.

The projectile can also go on to hit other entities multiple times. This can happen up to 60 times per second (every game 'tick'), though some projectiles have a limit to how often they can hit.

One projectile, multiple targets, multiple payload releases each.

Spells that pierce by default

While most projectiles can be modified with Piercing Shot, these following spells come with piercing behaviour by default. In addition to saving you the hefty mana cost of the modifier (and avoiding the friendly fire effect) this also avoids the 2 frame delay between firing, and Piercing Shot modifying the projectiles.
