Hankaussähkö

Hankaussähkö (also known as Static Electricity) is a small enemy that is often found orbiting other enemies in the Snowy Depths. The electrical shock effect that surrounds it can be seen through darkness.

Behaviour

Hankaussähkö will attempt to move towards the nearest enemy and begin orbiting it clockwise once it is close enough, causing its Faction to become that of the orbited enemy. If it has line of sight with you, it will attack by firing small electrical projectiles from the enemy it is orbiting. The projectiles will deal 4 Electric damage and cause a small electrical stun, if you are not immune.

If there are no enemies nearby, Hankaussähkö will move to and orbit you instead, essentially becoming an ally until it finds an enemy to orbit. Friendly-fire spells like Glowing Lance can still deal damage to it in this state.

Upon death, Hankaussähkö will create a stationary Thunder Charge projectile, identical to the projectile created when an Electricity Trap is destroyed.

Combat Tips

The projectiles fired by Hankaussähkö are weak but very fast, and the electrical stun that they cause can paralyze you for long enough for dangerous enemies like Kranuhiisi to damage you without a chance to dodge. On their own, however, Hankaussähkö can still be deadly; commonly, two or three Hankaussähkö can be found orbiting each other, making it hard to approach them without getting stunned for long periods of time.

Any form of Electricity Immunity makes Hankaussähkö entirely harmless, except for its on-death explosion. Shields can also help greatly with blocking its dart projectiles.

Shiny Variant

Each Hankaussähkö has a 1/8192 chance to appear as a golden 'shiny' variant. Darts fired by a shiny Hankaussähkö will deal 6 Projectile damage. Additionally, a shiny Hankaussähkö will shoot 3 weak Magic Missiles consecutively, shortly after this attack it will follow up with the normal attack, however much faster than normal (4 times per second instead of once every 1.2 seconds). Both of these attacks will create Gold powder upon expiring, with the missile creating larger amounts.

Trivia

  • The golden variant of Hankaussähkö is a reference to Shiny Pokémon, and specifically the 1/8192 chance for a Pokémon to be shiny in the Generation II games.
  • Hankaussähkö is affectionately referred to as "fuzz" in the game files.
