Greater Hell Worms (in-game name Suur-Helvetinmato) are colossal armored worms which nest deep inside the lowest parts of The Work (Hell).

They pose a threat to players who venture too deep into Hell, featuring an oversized pair of mandibles and various magical powers.

Their jaw possesses the rare ability to damage the player relative to their maximum health, resulting in them being a threat even if the player has millions of health points.

Behavior

Greater Hell Worms will regularly try to charge the player down in an attempt to bite them, once a Greater Hell Worm has the player's scent there's no hiding from them, however they could be escaped by using a Lukki Portal.

After charging the player for some time they will begin to slow down to a halt, when this happens they will begin casting a barrage of Spectral Wands from every segment on their body, which will cast Meteors after a short delay.

After bombarding the player for a short time they will resume charging the player with their monstrous jaw.

Every 20 seconds while slithering or casting a barrage of spectral wands, the Worm may sing and apply the Effect final requiem.png Final Requiem status to all entities in a large radius. The victims will loose all protective perks and be unable to heal for as long as the status is active.

Combat Tips

  • As the worm's bite does damage relative to the victim's maximum health, it is best to exercise caution around the worm even if you have a large amount of health.
  • While the Meteors themselves do relatively little damage to a powerful endgame player, the Effect on fire.png On fire! status they can inflict is capable of dealing damage relative to the player's maximum health.
    • While this status can normally be blocked by the Fire Immunity perk, it will be disabled due to the Effect final requiem.png Final Requiem status effect constantly being applied. Because of this it may be safest to bring a source of water to extinguish yourself should you catch fire.
  • Unlike most hell enemies, Greater Hell Worms only appear below the Dark Moon, if you wish to avoid the worms entirely you could avoid going below the Dark Moon, or visit The Work (Sky) instead.
  • When the Greater Hell Worm takes damage, it will become immune to all damage for 0.083 seconds (5 frames), this significantly weakens the damage taken from attacks with piercing properties or multiple projectiles.
  • During NG+, the player will have a 300% damage multiplier on melee damage, turning the 20% health bite of the Greater Hell Worm into a 60% health bite. This further multiplies into a 180% health bite on NG++, making a single worm bite fatal.
    • The Saving Grace perk can help significantly with surviving worm bites on higher NG+ levels, as they will negate some of the damage dealt and provide a window for escape if needed.
    • Stainless Armour will not be useful when fighting Greater Hell Worms, as their effect is disabled by the Effect final requiem.png Final Requiem status.
