Dark Moon

The Dark Moon at the bottom of The Work.

The Dark Moon is a location below the first Temple of the Art layer in the repeating layers of The Work (Hell). Similarly to its counterpart in the sky, it's made of cheese, although this one has a darker, reddish appearance. Unlike its cousin, only a part of it is solid, making jagged cliffs with blood pooling in the space between them.

In the center of the Dark Moon, glyphs can be found that read "WHAT HATCHED".

Events

Similarly to the Moon, you can trigger unique events with similar requirements. Along with that, completing any event will award their corresponding Achievement Pillars.

The Blood Moon

If the Essences of Air, Fire, Earth and Water are brought to the center of the Dark Moon, the entire Moon will transform into Blood and this message will appear:

"From my blood..."From my blood... From my blood... From my blood... From my blood...

Heretic!

Throwing a Refreshing Gourd at Kolmisilmä (or simply flying on top of it with the Gourd in your inventory) will deform its body into a green, gourd-like shape (sometimes nicknamed "Gourdon" by the community).

If the Final Boss has been transformed with a Refreshing Gourd in the current run, going to the centre of the Dark Moon with the four elemental Essences (but not the Essence of Spirits) will transform the Dark Moon into acid and spawn 10 Kolmisilman Katyri with 2,250HP instead of the usual 800HP.

The conditions of this quest are unlike the The Gourd Moon quest, which can be completed with the Essence of Spirits in addition to the four elemental essences. If the player has all five essences, The Blood Moon event will be triggered instead of Heretic!

The gods will be enraged, and this message will be shown:

Heretic!How dare you do this!

Coordinates

The Dark Moon is found at x = 9 and y = 37513. As is the case with the normal Moon, Parallel Worlds have no Dark Moon, though it is also present in New Game Plus cycles (unless world generation overwrites it for the cycle), permitting multiple Moon events to be completed within a single run.
