The Work (Sky)

The Work (Sky) is one of 3 places in Noita bearing the name "The Work", and is an infinitely looping biome high in the skies above the Forest. It has nearly the same terrain as the main path with a few unique "tiles" that are recognisable due to their total incongruity with the rest, but is encountered in reverse order if travelling from the ground. Unlike The Tower, the actual order is not reversed.

About

In order to even reach this place, you will require some form of infinite flight, such as a wand with Teleport Spell. A wand with enough recoil to push you into the air when shooting downwards will also work.

The Work (Sky) consists of all the terrain from the biomes from the main path in the same arrangement and order, which means that since you're approaching from below you will start out in a version of the top layer of The Work (Hell) and then proceed up to the Temple of the Art. There are some differences, however, as most materials the dungeons are made of are changed into Clouds that are (strangely) very resistant to digging and hard to see.

None of the permanent areas that are the same every game will be present. Only the sections that are procedurally generated will appear in here.

The Moon

Above the top area before the biome starts looping, you'll find the Moon some distance above where the new game mine entrance would've been.

Points of Interest

  • There is a large area in both The Work (Hell) and The Work (Sky) that has very powerful spells like Omega or Mu. It may be of interest for one to go there to build powerful wands.

Enemies

Both The Work (Sky) and The Work (Hell) play host to some of the most challenging enemies in Noita. The enemies present in The Work (Sky) include:

  • and rarely, one of the three different varieties of Creeps

Tips

  • Sky Gazers fire Polymorphine projectiles, and bleed Chaotic Polymorphine. Their prevalence in this biome makes traversing it a very hazardous prospect, regardless of the player's health or perks.
    • If possible, gaining some Immunity to Polymorphine (particularly the liquid Chaotic kind) will make this biome much more survivable.
    • Alternatively, you can use one of several methods to remove or otherwise mitigate the risk.

Sky Gazers

Main article: Taivaankatse
  • Sky Gazers are the only enemy found in this biome not locatable elsewhere. If seeking progress, one must enter this biome to kill one. Only one kill is needed. It is ideal to both keep a distance, and to retreat a great distance horizontally afterwards if it bled, so the chaotic polymorphine cannot fall on you on your way back down due to its chunk(s) being unloaded.
    • Sky Gazers do not bleed if killed while Frozen...
    • ...But the monsters do fight each other, and their projectiles spill a small amount of the liquid too.

Shopping

  • This biome offers the most accessible Tier 10 Spell Shops in the game - with access possible in most runs. They are located directly above the pond to the east of the entry hall to the mines, a very great distance up. When encountered travelling directly west will lead to an even larger shop.
  • SPOILER: Copies of the shops (and the entire biome) extend upwards (seemingly indefinitely) all spaced the same distance apart.
    • There are also spell shops littered throughout the biome as a whole, but the two mentioned are special in that they are guaranteed to initially generate without any enemy presence. If accessing Work Shops with enemies, consider The Work (Hell) instead unless taking the risk entailed by Chaotic Polymorphine is a fun prospect for you personally. There are lesser hazards there - and still plenty of ways to die - but (aside from one easily avoidable area) zero risk of instant death via Polymorphine.
    • The two special spell shops also appear in The Work (Hell).
    • There is a less special shop on the second layer on the way to the first two shops. It is a small shop separated by 1 chunk from the main area. Because of this, it is just far enough away that if one goes there without visiting the main biome, one can exploit its layout to deal with just that chunk's spawns, if any.
      • If a Sky Gazer spawns, don't risk buying spells near it unless you can kill the Sky Gazer quickly.
    • All of these shops may be hard to locate. If one is not averse to spoilers or has discovered the layout of the world, it may be helpful to look up a world map.
      • SPOILER: A map of the sky, and the rest of the world, can be found on this site.

Trivia

  • The presence and the order of The Work (Sky) is most likely a reference to the Hermetic principle of "As Below, So Above" which appears on The Emerald Tablet and is a key principle in European alchemy.
    • However, this is not the case as it misses one key feature of both the lower world and lower Work. It is imperfect in that sense.
