Homing Shots is a perk that will cause most spells to home towards enemies. While typically having a positive effect, as more of your projectiles will hit enemies, it can come with a few downsides. Although the homing effect is weaker than most of the Homing Spells, it does not cost any extra mana, making it quite useful in the early game.
Tips
- The effectiveness of this perk heavily depends on the speed of the projectile being shot. Static projectiles such as Death Cross, Slime Mist and the sparks of Levitation Trail will reliably follow targets, while fast projectiles like Magic Arrow will only curve slightly.
- This perk is the only way to get homing effects on projectiles that are unaffected by spell modifiers, like Larpa copies or Path of Dark Flame particles.
- Using Rock with this perk causes it to fly into enemies and deal high amounts of physics damage to them, sweeping the area. All of the kills done this way will be trick kills.
Drawbacks
- Picking this perk can often make it difficult to target the enemy you want. If there's two enemies in front of you (one is behind the other), and you want to target the back one, your spells will usually target the front one. This can also cause your projectiles to fly into walls if there's an enemy behind it.
- Using dangerous spells, like Disc Projectile of Plasma Beam can be especially risky with this perk, as it might cause the projectile to fly through you on its path to hit an enemy.
- Black Holes typically become less useful, as they will redirect their course toward any enemies it might come across instead of digging where you want it to. This makes it pretty much impossible to use them to escape a battle. However, if the black hole targets an enemy during the tail end of its lifespan, or you kill the enemy its targeting while it's accelerating, this can be used to make the black hole travel farther.
- This perk makes Square Barrier with Spells to Power much harder to do as the particles will fly into an enemy nearby if there is one.
