"In order to create these chains, you have to know which material is the first input and which is the second input in the reaction. This information is found on each material's wiki page." Is it though? I can't find information about broken chains anywhere.

Yes, though sometimes not comprehensively (some pages mention omitting some reactions inherited from "parent" materials). For example, the Gold page has a single table of reactions and under the "Reagents" column we see "Molten Gold + [water]", corresponding to the input_cell1="gold_molten" input_cell2="[water]" mentioned in the article. I imagine there may be some accidental omissions in other places, so if you spot any it'd help to fill them in or at least mention some things are omitted.
