Exploit brainstorming, detail testing (contains spoilers)

It would be interesting to test whether:

  • Using the status effect exploit can be used to avoid (some) New Game Plus damage multiplier modifications
    • It looks like this will work for the damage types that the status effect impacts (melee, slice, drill, projectile, explosion, fire, ice, electricity, radioactive) --- confirmed by performing the second trick and comparing the player's damage multipliers before and after; the only multiplier changed appears to be poison changing from 1.0 to 3.0, and no new multipliers appear to be introduced nor any removed. Higher levels of NG+ seem to work the same way.
  • Whether application of the status effect at all will remove (the other) New Game Plus damage multiplier modifications (or any non-NG+ multiplier settings)
    • It looks like the status effect does not reset damage multipliers that it does not set.
  • Whether application of the status effect and then polymorphing will allow overwriting some/all NG+ damage multiplier modifications / base multipliers.
    • Partial testing: the status effect appears to be re-applied upon the end of the polymorph, so likely there will either be the same removal of (other) multiplier modifications as without a polymorph (if any happen to be removed) or no modifications. (This also raises the question of whether it's possible to polymorph across a NG+ transition and what that would do.)

Testing whether setting damage multipliers to 0 or below blocks associated status effects:

  • Electricity damage multiplier and Stunned:
    • Teleporting into a Thunder Spirit and/or being hit by their primary attack normally results in the Stunned status effect. With an electricity damage multiplier of about -0.5, this does not occur.
    • Hitting oneself with Concentrated Spells perk + Ping Pong Path + Electric Charge + Healing Bolt normally appears to produce a very short stun, but does not do so with an electricity damage multiplier of about -0.5.
  • Various damage multipliers and Dazed (more testing required):
    • Status Effects page states that Dazed is caused by taking melee or projectile damage while flying. With a melee damage of multiplier of about -1.0, being hit by a Thunder Spirit's secondary kick attack while flying does produce a momentary Dazed effect.
  • Projectile damage multiplier and Dazed (more testing required):
    • Status Effects page states that Dazed is caused by taking melee or projectile damage while flying. However, hitting oneself with Concentrated Spells perk + Ping Pong Path + Healing Bolt while flying (with ~1700 current&max HP, full or empty levitation bar) does not appear to produce this status effect normally.
    • Explosion of Brimstone page only mentions explosion damage, but states that it can inflict the Dazed status effect. Could be checked and tested whether reducing the explosion damage multiplier alone to 0 or less would prevent such an effect.

Revisiting the above

  • NG+ tricks have been tested, described, and migrated to Turvattomuusmestari page.
    • Polymorphing across NG+ still untested, and if possible, belongs elsewhere.
  • Some of the dazed effects still could be tested further and this/other articles updated. A multiplier of zero should probably be investigated as a special case, separately from negative values.
  • Additionally, the effect --- or lack thereof --- of melee damage multiplier modification on bite damage could be investigated and noted.
