The Molten Mage (in-game name Sulanutkivi) is relatively similar to its vanilla counterpart, the Fire Mage. However it is sporting more purple attire, and a dark rock head surging with lava. This enemy has the potential to fill the area with Lava, at a relatively fast rate.

Their eyes glow within the darkness, however they will dim and light back up periodically.

Behaviour

Being incapable of flight, the Molten Mage still relies on jumping to reach higher positions. It will fire a redder version of the Fireball spell with a peculiar chomping mouth, the projectile has an increased projectile life time so it will likely only explode upon collision, upon exploding it will summon a small Circle of Lava, it plays the sound that would play when a Sea of Lava is cast.

They are still unharmed by fire and will burn nearby flammable materials. They still bleed normal Lava, posing the same threat as it would normally. Pouring water is a recommended strategy against this, especially due to its attack creating much more lava.

The Molten Mage still is easily dispatched by small puddles and may accidentally step inside sources of water and meet their end. They are also still damaged by other materials such as: Acid, Poison, Freezing Liquid, Freezing Vapor, Mud, Swamp, Brine, Swamp, Snow, and Ice.

The Molten Mage remains passive when the player is wielding a Brimstone.

Combat Tips

  • Tread cautiously as the lava produced from it's projectile can very quickly drain your health when hit directly, with little ways to escape when cornered.
  • It will typically throw as it's jumping at you, which can be easily disorientating if unprepared.
  • Don't let your guard down when the projectile flies overhead, as the lava can still pour onto you after it explodes.
  • Making sure you have the Effect wet.png Wet status is a good way to make sure you won't be set on fire, but will not be very effective against the lava.
  • The Molten Mage is capable of creating large amounts of lava at a moments notice, this can work in your favor as it can create so much that it drowns within it. This is unrecommended however, due to the danger lava poses.
  • Dousing the Molten Mage in any Water type is still the easiest way to dispatch it, but this can be harder to do, due to the increased amount of lava which could put out the water.
    • Make sure you aren't in its line of sight as you're pouring, as that can prompt it to create more lava and potentially flood the area.
  • This enemies has a peculiar immunity to critical hits, so don't attempt to rely on this type of damage.

Trivia

  • The Molten Mage along with a few other fire themed enemies inhabit the Lava Lake to the right of Mines.
