Alchemic Precursor is a blue liquid created by mixing 3 different materials, each randomly chosen every run.
Characteristics
The precise components to create this substance vary for each run based on the world seed, but typically include two liquids and one powder.
Drinking it gives you both 
Food poisoning and 
Poisoned for 10 seconds. It can be transformed into Draught of Midas by adding any variant of meat. It has no other purpose, though it is highly flammable, similar to Whiskey.

Tips
- If attempting to shift Draught of Midas into being common for the extremely lucrative opportunities gained thereby, it may be best to attempt shifting this material instead, as doing so allows you to first bottle some Draught, and then dupe it via Sea of Mimicium if the shift is a shift away vs a shift to. It also allows "re-rolling" of the shifting process should the shift fail, since if Precursor is shifted away, but you still have Draught, you get one more chance for the sort of ridiculous and interesting run under consideration.
- Extremely Dense Rock floors form an ideal surface to test mixing very small amounts of ingredients for a candidate recipe - usually even better than what can be dug. Some can be found early game after a climb at the furthest reaches of the Desert. Less ideal surfaces are available to the right of the Snowy Depths. The sort of surface found after the climb in the desert is commonly available in mid to end game areas, including the structural void in the western reaches, which is the largest natural laboratory in the main world.
- It is possible to use gravity to conduct a mass-candidate search by using cement towers that pipes and tanks are drilled into, with small "beds" for solid/powder candidates. This may be less difficult for some than manual mixing. The rule is that the highest point at which the substance appears excludes all materials below that point. This same system will also search for Lively Concoction at the same time, however.
